Information for parents
The ALP offers an extensive program for students from the 5th grade up. Exciting workshops, holiday events and after school activities with interesting content of the STEM fields (science, technology, engineering, maths). The students are supported by mentors that offer guidance.
Who are the mentors?
Mentors are trained female students or trainees from the STEM field who are very engaged. They give the students an understanding of the STEM subjects and guide them in their educational and professional orientation phase. It’s our goal to show the girls professional perspectives and widen their spectrum of careers, especially in the STEM field.
How can I sign my daughter up for an event?
Here you can find a list with all events of all our locations. How to sign up for an event is separately explained for every event. Details about location and a short overview of the content are also published on the homepage.
Apart from workshops students can participate in regularly offered after school activities at their schools. A list with all participating schools you can find our “cooperating schools” on the site of your location.
What is the cost?
All events that we offer are free for the participants. The ALP is financed through the Ministerium für Familie, Frauen, Jugend, Integration und Verfassungsschutz and the Ministerium für Wissenschaft, Weiterbildung und Kultur as well as the Europäischen Sozialfonds.
How will my daughter benefit from the program?
Participants are supervised by mentors that aren’t much older than themselves which helps identifying with them. They act as a role model and contact person for your daughter that can help with insecurities or worries about career possibilities. The stress-free environment of the events helps discovering strengths and abilities away from the pressure of school in a group of like-minded young girls. Getting exclusive insights into the jobs and study courses from women who are currently in the STEM field helps girls expand their career choices and helps them find their way.
Who can I talk to?
You contact person is the project leader at your location. You can find contact information on the Team site of your location’s site.
Why is our motto “What I want, I can do!”?
Girls aren’t less qualified than their male peers to pursue a STEM career but do it more rarely. One of the main reasons for this is that the situation of many students in STEM classes and studies as well as women in STEM jobs is riddled with prejudice. This means girls need more self-confidence and determination to execute their dreams. Our project aims to help and encourage them to pursue their interests and not be influenced by negative gender stereotypes.
